Having felines at home, we can honestly say that litter box duty is the least favorite cat chore. Not only is the box itself gross at the best of times, but if you have a dig-and-bury bandit on your hands, the litter can fly all over the place.
This is why we highly recommend getting a cat litter mat. These mats can catch everything that doesn’t make it into the litter box. Even if your pet happens to “miss”, there is a protective layer between that and your carpet or flooring.
Although recommending a product is easy, actually finding a good mat is not as simple. This is why we have found the ten best mats and reviewed each one below. We will share how effective each one is along with their durability, size, how easy they are to clean, and much more. We have even added a buyer’s guide to give you all the details you need to get your own house-saving cat litter mat!

The 10 Best Cat Litter Mats Reviewed:
1. MIGHTY MONKEY Premium Cat Litter – Best Overall
Our first choice is the MIGHTY MONKEY Premium Cat Litter mat. This is a non-toxic and phthalate-free option that has deeply grooved mesh to trap cat litter from spreading. It works to remove any litter from your furballs paws, as well.
This mat is waterproof and leak-proof, so any “accidents” will not harm your flooring below. What’s more, it has a slip-resistant bottom, so it is safe for both you and your pet to walk on. The MIGHTY MONKEY is made of durable material that won’t rip or tear. Not only that, but it is easy to clean by either shaking it out, vacuuming, or you can use soap and water to rinse it down.
Weighing 2.4 pounds, this mat comes in a large 24 x 17-inch size or an extra-large 35 x 23-inch size. It is soft on your cat’s paws, plus it comes in eight neutral colors that will fit in with any home decor. Overall, this is our favorite cat litter mat.
2. Petlinks 49507 Purr-FECT Paws Cat Litter Mat – Best Value
If you need to find something a bit more reasonably priced, the Petlinks 49507 Purr-FECT Paws Cat Litter Mat is a good choice for you. This handy item comes in either a medium, large, or extra-large size, plus you can choose from gray, blue, or tan. It is durable and will prevent litter from being tracked through your house.
The Petlinks mat spreads your cat’s paw pads to eliminate any litter that may get stuck between their toes. It features a non-slip bottom, plus it does not leak. What’s more, the flexible design is easy to clean by brushing it off, vacuuming, or dumping it back into the box.
This mat is non-toxic and safe for your pet and family. Made of durable material, it will not rip, and it can resist heavy scratching. The only drawback of note is it is not as soft as our top option. Otherwise, this is the best cat litter mat for the money.
3. Gorilla Grip Durable Cat Litter Mat – Premium Choice
The Gorilla Grip Durable Cat Litter Mat is our next option that comes in an extra-large, Jumbo, half-circle, or corner mat. There are nine colors to choose from, as well. This mat is ⅓-inch thick and durable. It is scratch-resistant, plus it can take heavy vacuuming or cleaning.
This mat has deep grooves that will keep litter from going all over the floor. The mesh design also captures litter that gets trapped in your cat’s paws. What’s more, the slip and water-resistant bottom will stop any moisture from damaging the floor below. Keep in mind, however, the mesh material can catch on your kitty’s claws.
The Gorilla Grip is non-toxic and phthalate-free. It’s easy to clean and weighs a convenient 1.5 pounds. It is also soft under your cat’s paws. The only other drawback about this option is it’s more expensive than other mats. Otherwise, this is a great durable mat for your cat.
4. Pawkin Cat Litter Mat
The Pawkin Cat Litter Mat is available in an extra-large and extra-extra-large size. Although it is only designed in one gray color, it is effective at capturing excess litter from your cat box, as well as your feline’s paws.
The Pawkin is a non-toxic mat that is made phthalate-free. It has a non-slip bottom that keeps it from moving around, plus it is soft on your pal’s paws when they step on it. What’s more, the water-resistant bottom will keep any moisture from seeping through.
This mat will catch on your kitty’s nails if they are not careful. Also, it is not as easy to clean as some other options. Although you can shake it off and rinse it with soap and water, vacuuming is not recommended. Beyond that, it is durable weighing 2.2 pounds that will last you quite a while.
5. UPSKY 001 Cat Litter Mat
If you have a smaller litter box, this next review might be right for you. The UPSKY 001 cat Litter Mat comes in one 24 x 16-inch size, although it is available in five colors. Also, it comes in a two-pack, so you can stitch them together to make one big pad or you can use them separately, as needed.
This durable pad traps litter in the PVC material. It is non-toxic and odor-free. Not to mention, it has the standard slip-resistant backing, plus it is waterproof. What’s more, you can easily clean it with soap and water or the vacuum. You can also shake it off and back into the box.
One thing to note about this option is it’s thinner than others. The UPSKY is 0.3 inches, therefore, it is not as softy on your cat’s paws. Also, although it can be stitched together, it is difficult to do so, and the individual mats are small. Finally, we do not recommend this mat for cats that like to claw.
6. LittleTiger Cat Litter Mat
This next mat is a good fit if you have a larger sized cat box. The LittleTiger Cat Litter Mat comes in a 47 x 36-inch size that can be too big if you have a smaller feline bathroom box. On the other hand, this pad is durable and will effectively trap any wayward litter that gets stuck on your pet’s paws.
The LittleTiger also has a non-slip backing to keep the mat in place. What is lacking with this choice is water-resistance, however. Unfortunately, if there is an “accident” the moisture can leak through to your flooring. Besides that, your pet will be comfortable using this padded option.
Another factor you should consider is this mat can be vacuumed and rinsed, but we do not recommend shaking it as it is heavy at 4.6 pounds. Also, this option is not great at trapping excess littler. On the other hand, it is a non-toxic option that comes in gray or black. Finally, you should note that your cat can get their claws stuck on the mesh material.
7. PetLike Durable Cat Litter Mat
The PetLike Durable Cat Litter mat is available in one small 30 x 18-inch size that comes in 10 colors. Also, this mat has an aesthetically pleasing design that will blend in with your home decor. With this mat, you will easily be able to control scattered litter. It is phthalate and BPA free, plus weighs an ultra-light 1.6 pounds.
One thing of note with this mat is it’s not as durable as other options. For that reason, we do not recommend vacuuming because the pad can easily rip. What’s more, it is not as soft on your pet’s paws. On the other hand, you can still shake off or rinse this option. The PetLike mat has a non-slip bottom, but it is known to leak if any liquid makes it over the edge of the cat box.
8. WePet Cat Litter Mat
The WetPet Cat Litter Mat is our next option up for review. This is a different type of mat, and it uses a honeycomb design to trap litter between its two layers. You empty it by either pouring the excess from the middle or the open sides. This pad is made from 12mm 3D convex honeycomb holes and EVA material.
You will also find the edges of this mat are made with faux-leather edging. While this helps keep the two layers together, it doesn’t help keep any moisture inside. In fact, this option does not have a lot of water-resistance, to begin with.
You also want to note that this is not the easiest mat to clean. Vacuuming it out can be difficult especially as the entire construction is not that durable. On the other hand, it is eco-friendly, non-toxic, and BPA and phthalate-free. Be aware, though, it is not soft nor does it have a non-slip bottom.
9. Bull-o Cat Litter Mat
Our second to last option is the Bull-o Cat Litter Mat. This option is only available in one 24 x 15-inch small size, and it comes in either gray or black. This is another two-layer honeycomb, yet this one only opens from one end. This makes it a lot more difficult to keep clean.
You should also note that this model is not as effective. The litter has a hard time making its way through the holes. That being said, the holes are the perfect size for your cat’s claws. Also, though it is advertised to have a smooth surface, it is not soft or padded.
The Bull-o is phthalate-free and non-toxic. Unfortunately, it is not waterproof nor is it durable. Made of EVA rubber, it also has a strong odor to it that can be unpleasant. What’s more, this mat will slip all over the floor as the backing is not slide resistant.
10. Vivaglory 3D Design Microfiber Cat Litter Mat
Our final option is the Vivaglory 3D Design Microfiber Cat Litter Mat. It is available in a 31 x 20-inch size, plus it comes in four different colors. This last pad is different from our other options as it is more of a rug than a litter mat. The microfiber strands are designed to trap and hold excess litter, though it is not effective.
You should also note that the water-resistance and skid-resistance are non-existent. Though it doesn’t keep water from escaping, it will hold moisture, so it also retains odors. On a brighter note, you can throw this option in the washing machine, yet it is not durable. It will fall apart quickly after several washes.
The Vivaglory is soft on your cat’s paws, but their claws get stuck easily. It can also develop mold and mildew if not taken care of consistently. Overall, this is our least favorite option for a cat litter mat.
A cat litter mat can have many benefits. They can keep your home sanitary and eliminate odors from taking over the space. Not only that, but it can also give your pet a soft space to walk, and it will keep litter from hurting their little feet.
Let’s take a look at some features you should look out for when shopping for a mat.
- Effectiveness: The most important factor you should consider is the effectiveness of the mat. Not only should it trap any litter that may make its way over the side, but it should also remove any debris that gets stuck in your pet’s paws.
- Size: Size is another important consideration. You want the mat to cover more than just the bottom of the box. It should also extend to where your pet can walk on it, as well. What’s more, some people like to have an additional mat on the side of the box, too.
- Water-resistance: Every once in a while, your pet may miss what they are aiming at. When this happens, you want to have a barrier between the moisture and your flooring. Water-resistance and leak-proof mats will take care of both.
- Non-slip Bottom: A non-slip bottom is important to keep your box and cat in one place while they are going to the bathroom. Pets can also get rambunctious, so you do not want other accidents from happening.
- Cleaning: Any mat you find will need to be cleaned at one point or another. Having the option to rinse or vacuum is key to make your life easier. Also, many people find it convenient to pour excess litter back into the cat box.
- Non-Toxic: Most mats are made phthalate-free these days. This is a harmful ingredient that can be toxic to you and your pet. Though most litter pads are made this way, looking for an option that is eco-friendly and BPA free is also important.
- Soft: Finally, if your pet has sensitive paws, a soft mat can do them wonders. In fact, many people use this mat for their food dish or just a place for their cat to lay and relax, as well.
In our opinion, the MIGHTY MONKEY Premium Cat Litter is the best option. This is an effective pad that will keep the litter where it should be. It is water-resistant, non-toxic, and won’t slip all over the place. If you need a more affordable option, the Petlinks 49507 Purr-FECT Paws Cat Litter Mat is a great alternative that will keep your home clean.
