Ernest Hemingway, the founder of the Hemingway Home in Key West, Florida, is the home to approximately 50–60 polydactyl cats. Although not every feline has the physical trait, each carries the polydactyl DNA gene and is able to pass it on to their offspring. Mr. Hemingway was gifted his first six-toed kitten, Snow White, and so began his admiration and love for his extra-toed furry friends.
